CAMPER À WALT DISNEY
All The Blog

The Disney Fort Wilderness campground is certainly not a traditional hotel that most visitors choose for their visit to the world of Mickey. But Disney Fort Wilderness Resort is one of the oldest resorts in Walt Disney. It opened its doors one month after the Magic Kingdom in 1971. For my part, it remains one of the most special places on the site. Without hesitation, I can say that the Disney Fort Wilderness campsite is the most beautiful campsite I have visited to this date.

THE DISNEY FORT WILDERNESS CAMPSITE

Located in the heart of 750 acres of pine and cypress forests, this magical place evokes the essence of Walt Disney World's imagination. Most importantly, the Disney Fort Wilderness campground is the only pet-friendly resort in Walt Disney World. If this is not enough to convince you to stay there read more!

The Disney Fort Wilderness campsite is an attraction in itself, just like a visit to Magic Kingdom. If you visit this unique resort, you will want to enjoy it fully. Keep in your itinerary a few days to simply be camping!

At Disney's Fort Wilderness, you can sing and toast marshmallows with the Chipmunks and then watch Disney classics in an open sky theatre. You will be able to see the electric parade on the water from the beach of the campsite every evening.

Entertainment and Disney themed games are always on the program at the main pool; the Meadow pool. It is equipped with slides, a hot tub and a children's playground. A second, smaller pool is open 24 hours a day.

You can visit the ranch and farm to see a blacksmith fix horseshoes (some days) on Cinderella ponies and horses seen in Magic Kingdom parades. Horse-drawn carriage rides and pony rides are available.

In addition to all this, you will have at your disposal a panoply of recreational facilities:

  • Arcades
  • Playground
  • Bicycle paths and bike rental
  • Boat rental, canoes, kayaks and fishing equipment
  • Tennis, basketball and volleyball

Restaurants

There are two fast-food options available: P & J's Southern Takeout Restaurant and Meadow's Snack Bar, where you can eat quickly before heading to the parks or enjoying a snack by the pool. The trail's end restaurant is a casual restaurant serving buffet breakfast and dinner.

Two must-see dinner shows are presented on the site: the musical review Hoop-Dee-Doo and the famous Mickey's Backyard BBQ. The latter is a great opportunity to meet Mickey, Minnie and their friends without having to wait in the parks lines. Warning! Reservations are highly reccomended.

GOOD TO KNOW

  • There are 15 sanitary blocks strategically located in the campground. Many loops have their own station. Some of the smaller loops share a single station located in the center. The sanitary blocks are all air-conditioned and include private showers, toilets, washers and dryers, and ice machines. They are open 24 hours, but have security locks activated from midnight to 6 am.
  • The campround is big. Use the shuttles at your disposal. Bring your bikes for more flexibility.
  • Renting a golf cart to get around is an interresting option and costs around $ 60 USD per day.
  • Pets are allowed only if your RV is equipped with air conditioning.
  • A kennel service with an excellent reputation is located near the campground. Days can be long for doggie when the family is having fun in the parks.
