I love camping in autumn. It is during this period that I make the most outings. Summer is solicited; BBQ with friends, weddings, swimming at home etc.! In autumn, with back to school, camping sites are transformed into a haven of tranquility and I want to enjoy it. My camping season traditionally ends on Thanksgiving weekend when the fall colors are in full swing. Each year I choose a different destination and in recent years I had some favorites. Here is a list of places that have charmed me all within 5 hours of Montreal.

White Mountains, New Hampshire, United States

The White Mountains of New Hampshire are according to Lonely Planet and myself, la Campeuse en Cavale , one of the best places around the world to see the fall at its finest. The Kancamagus Scenic Byway offers one of the most beautiful roads through the White Mountains of New Hampshire. The rise of Mt-Washington by car or walk and silver cascade fall in Carroll County are also essential activities to see the trees shine!

Camping in the White Mountains region:

I like camping near North Conway. It's centrally located and I can't resist going for a walk in the shops of this pretty village. The White Mountains region offers hundreds of campsites for all styles. During my past stays I particularly appreciated Glenn Ellis Family Campground. It is an ideal campsite for those who are traveling in an RV and looking for services. It can be very cold at night at this time of the year.

Here are some links to do your research according to your preferences:

Finger Lakes, New York, United States

The Finger Lakes area of upstate New York is farther away but worth it! Harvests is in full swing in this wine region in fall. The vast landscapes of vineyards are spotted with red, orange and gold. Hiking, farm tours and winery visits should be in the spotlight during this getaway.

Camping in the Finger Lakes Area

Letchworth State Park and Watkins Glen State Parkranked respectively 1st and 3rd best national park of the country by USA today are according to me your best choices and some site offer services for campers in RV's.

Thousand Islands Region, Ontario

The Thousand Islands region in Ontario is at its best in the fall. Take a cruise in the archipelago of islands, admire the river from the many campsites along the seaway and even visit a castle!

Hidden gem! The history of the Bolt Castle is as interesting as the 120 rooms, tunnels, powerhouse, Italian gardens, a drawbridge, alster tower (children’s playhouse) and a dove cote. Upstate New York right on the St Lawrence River. Not a single detail or expense was spared. Add this to your bucket list for all you castle seekers. #bucketlist #newyork #upstatenewyork #stlawrenceriver #castle #castles #castles_oftheworld #newyorkcastle #hiddengem #offthebeatenpath #mustsee #travelamerica #uscastles #instagreat #instagood #instaphoto #instagram #travelusa #travelblogger #travelholic #tripadvisor #trip #tripusa #travelocity #twopeastravel #boltcastle #1000islands #castleseeker

Camping in the Thousand Islands region

Choose without hesitation one of the St. Lawrence Park for your stay. Ivy Lea Campground would be my first choice. But they are all very beautiful according to what I am told!

Mauricie National Park, Mauricie

The Mauricie National Park has 150 lakes on 536 square kilometers of forest, in addition to a scenic drive. There's many viewing points to admire fall colors, whether on the water, on foot or by car. Stop at the Belvedere du Passage.

Plan ahead in order to book a campsite at the Parc de la Mauricie during the period of fall colors.

Jacques-Cartier National Park, Stoneham

The Jacques-Cartier National Park, in Stoneham, is also one of my favourites because of the grandiose panoramas the hiking trails offer.

Sépaq campsites are always a guarantee of quality and I am never disappointed when I stay there.

Parc de la Gorge de Coaticook, Estrie

I love camping at Parc de la Gorge de Coaticook. This park offers stunning fall landscapes and interresting activities on site. Biking, hiking, suspension bridge with sublime view on the gorge and why not attend one of the last presentation of Foresta Lumina show!
